kenya

Two weeks ago we went on a holiday to Kenya. The flight was about 8.5 hours long but it was fine because I got to watch movies the whole way! I watched "Night at the Museum 2", "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" and the Simpsons which was really funny.

The landing was quite good and it didn't take long to get through the airport. We took a van type thing to a hotel called Tribe. Mark Somen is the General Manager of Tribe and he is also a good friend of my Mum's. Tribe was a really, really, really nice hotel with an awesome swimming pool. The keys there were really cool because they were just cards which you slotted into your door and it would open. There was a table in the middle of the swimming pool which Archie and I went to.

The next day, we had to take another plane to a place called Manda Island. It is very hot there and there are loads of beaches. It is also next to Lamu - about a quarter of a mile across the channel. We got picked up from the airport in a really cool dhow called "Angalia". We picked a few people up and then got to our destination, the Diamond Beach Village. It was really nice there and every morning they gave you some fresh fruit. We went swimming so much and made a few sandcastles. On most of the days, it was raining and we got extremely wet. We stayed in a treehouse which was really nice and big. It was called the "Baobab" because it is built in a baobab tree. Because it rained so much, we played so many games including Perudo, backgammon, Scrabble, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Cluedo. We went to Pepponi's twice when we were there which was really nice because the food was amazing.

One morning, we took a dhow to Lamu Town where we visited the museum and the fort which were really interesting. The guy at the museum was extremely nice and showed us around the whole exhibition telling us what each thing did. I bought a bracelet from a stall and so did Mum and Dad. Archie bought a boat called "Hidaya" which was made out of wood. We had a delicious pizza and really enjoyed seeing the town (especially all the donkeys!).

On the second to last day, Mummy and Daddy swum the channel with Archie while I was cheering them along in "Ronaldo" (another dhow). When we got to the other side, we saw camels on the beach and raced up the sand dunes. Archie came back in the boat with me for the return journey. While they were swimming, we spotted dolphins which was really cool.

On the last day, everybody was sad that we had to go back (especially as the sun had come out!). We flew back to Nairobi and then went out for a curry at Haandi before heading back to the airport. It was really, really nice and I can't wait to go there again one day.

What a fab holiday!

Lovely to hear about your holiday. It is amazing to think that you can travel so far for a half term. That is the power that is air travel. In my parents time it did take three weeks to go to Kenya by ship. There were very few planes then . I think it could take about three days by plane, stopping off in the Middle East.
I looked up the hotel in Nairobi, it looks very new, and I liked the look of your island tables in the middle of the pool. Pepponis though is a very spevila place and has been going for many more years, lucky you to go there for lunch.
